SEO Smart Links

This plugin lets you to automatically link the keywords and matching URLs in your posts and pages. You can also add no-follow attribute and target values for the link. This plugin briefly; looks for keyword phrases that match the titles of your posts and pages by default and turn them into links. For example: If you have a product name and if you want that product name linked to the product page automatically whenever it is written on a post or a page, SEO Smart Links make it automatically. Broken Link Checker

No need to mention how broken links might damage your website SEO wise. This plugin checks your posts and pages to find if there are any broken ones and notifies you on your dashboard if any. There is also some additional options such as reporting redirected links, and broken images which can be set in the plugin options page.

SEO Image

ALT and TITLE tags are important parts of your images for SEO purposes. They add information about the images in the code and lets search engines crawl the image successfully. This plugin lets you to automatically add ALT and TITLE tags to your images that hasn’t been set with these tags according to the options you specify in the plugin options page.

Redirection

This plugin lets you to manage 301 redirections which is vital for your on site search engine optimization. It captures the broken / 404 links on your website and lets you to point them to 301 redirection. An additional option this plugin provides is you can also redirect any link in your website; not only the broken ones. This feature can be useful in some cases. It also keeps a full log of redirected pages which is helpful for you to keep the track of the actions.

Google Doc Embedder

This is a plugin that lets you embed PDF files, Powerpoint documents into your posts using the Google Doc Viewer. The good thing with this plugin is it doesn’t require any software installed on the visitors browser to view it.

WP Greet Box

This plugin automatically shows greeting messages in your homepage with referer URL the visitor directed to your website. The nice thing about this plugin is it suggests visitors to take actions related with the referers they are visiting your website. For example, if the visitor clicks a link on a twitter page and visits your website; this plugin generates a message telling the visitor to tweet that page and follow you on Twitter. There are also some other major services included to the referers list. You can also set a default welcome message ignoring any referer related messages.

Important Note: All plugins listed here are given download links to Wordpress.Org official website. Be careful when you are trying to download a plugin; make sure you are getting the file via wordpress.org or directly from the author’s website if trusted.

What we should be doing here is to call the rss.php from the wordpress install in the first line of the code with<?php include_once(ABSPATH . WPINC . ‘/rss.php’); (the rss.php should already be there coming from a default wordpress install)

Then we give the RSS url of the feed we want to display in our wordpress website wp_rss(’http://ENTER-RSS-FEED-URL-HERE’, 10); ?> in the second line. The number written as “10” is the number of the feeds you want to display from the RSS feed url. It is optional and changable.

The final code should be two lines and look like:

Uploading Theme to Your Server

To start using a theme on your wordpress, you need to have the the theme files up in the server. So, open your FTP client and connect to your web server as the first step.

Your theme files have to be placed in “your-web-server/wp-content/themes/” folder. Therefore, double click on “wp-content” folder in your server, and inside it double click “themes” folder.

Now you are in the zone. Any theme you put in this “themes” folder will appear in your wordpress admin’s page theme selection section.

To start uploading your theme, browse to your theme files on your harddisk in the FTP client application related section and make sure you have the main folder selected to upload. (Some themes come with extra folders inside such as “theme/theme/……/theme files/”, in these cases you have to browse untill you get to the folder that has “theme files” in it. ) Start uploading theme folder that has the theme files in your hard disk to the “wp-content/themes/” folder on your web server as mentioned above.

Emphasis here; the newly uploaded themes location has to be “wp-content/themes/your-new-theme-folder/” and the theme files such as index.php, header.php ect. must be listed under “your-new-theme-folder”. Make sure it does.

Activating Your Theme

After the upload process finalizes, switch to your web browser and login to your admin page in your wordpress installation. Click on the “Appearance” on the left menu, it will expand, then click on the “Themes”.

It will open your themes section that lists available themes. The one you uploaded to your webserver as mentioned above, it should appear in the “Available Themes” list in this section. You can activate the theme simply by clicking to “Activate” link located just under the theme name and explanation or you can first try it by clicking to “Preview” link.

That’s it, if you followed the steps, your new theme should be ready to use. If you have any probelms during the installation, leave a comment and I’d be happy to assist if I can.

Downloading FileZilla FTP Client

I strongly suggest that you better download the installation file directly from the original website of FileZilla. In the main page; just click on the “Download FileZilla Client” and next choose your operating system platform.

Installing FileZilla FTP Client

After you download the file, just run it by double clicking on it (or the way your OS set up). Next;

The first step will be licence agreement window above. If you are OK with it, click “I Agree” button to proceed.

Second step will be an installation option window above which asks you who the application program be installed for. You can either select “Anyone who uses this computer” or “Only me”. This is actually a personal choice.

Third step will be the component chosing window above. You can select the required components for your needs at this step. The “FileZilla Client” is not deselectable as it includes the core files to run the application but the other listed ones depend on your needs. “Icon Sets” are the additional icon sets for theming the application. “Language Files” are for additional language support. You may deselect the language files if you are not interested in multi-language support and just fine with the English. “Shell Extension” option allows you to use the drag and drop option in the program. “Desktop Icon” component simply adds a desktop short cut icon on your desktop to run the program.

Fourth step is the installation location window above. You simply choose a path for your installation. If you want a different path other then the default path written, just click on “Browse” and choose an already created path in your hard disk.

Fifth step is the start menu folder window above. You will choose the menu folder where the application’s shortcuts are going to be located. If you want a folder other than the default folder given, simply write the folder name in the box. If you do not want any shortcuts placed in stat menu folder; just select the box “Do not create shortcuts”.

Now, If you are done with your choices, you can click on the “Install” button that appears in this last step. It will start the installation process.

After the application is installed, the window above will appear and you can start the program by simply clicking on “Finish” button while the “Start FileZilla Now” box is selected.
