This new format supports media attachments to the search results.

For example, if you are searching a specific product or an event, the search results that fit your criteria will have an additional field of the product or the event with an image/video of the search term located right above the search result. This field may include featured variaties of the product listed with prizes, or the map of the shops that has that product or a trailer of a movie you are looking for.

There is also an option to hide these additional informations if you prefer having the results in the way it was before.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) announced that website domain owners will have the chance to register their domain names in non-Latin characters. This will give the chance to have domain names in their own language to nearly 50% of the world wide web users, who use non-Latin character based languages.

What would be the benefits ?

Well, this in the first place will let non-Latin based users use their own language in the domain names. That sounds good in human rights wise. It will also increase the resources and add more to the expansion of the internet. Users number would probably increase in non-Latin languaged countries, too.

What would be the disadvantages ?

Actually, the main question here would be “How a Latin language and keyboard based user will type a non-Latin character to reach such non-Latin domain names?” Well, this would be a problem. There are downloadable non-Latin characters for keyboards but still it would make it hard for a Latin based user to understand and type the correct character with a non-Latin keyboard.

Bottom line is, this looks like a good step for the expansion part, and time will help us to see if it is also a good one for the usability.

“In order for us to use your RSS/Atom feeds for discovery, it’s important that crawling these files is not disallowed by your robots.txt”

…added by Google which means you need to allow robot.txt to crawl these files.

This is indeed a good news especially for bloggers.

Day has come, Google officially rolled out a music search feature that allows user search songs via web search. It works like this; when you enter a music/song related query in the search box and go for it, the results of the search will include the audio preview of the song(s) that is (or most related in some cases) with your search query.

This feature will indeed answer most of the needs in music searching. It will also help users to reach licenced sources of music in the first place.

There is one thing though, this feature will be available to U.S region only, for now.

Well, one of the old faces of the internet, Geocities, is now closed. I remember the early days back in 1994 when it was first launched to serve the web users. They offered a great opportunity for the webmasters to host their websites for free under their domain name. Might sound not that charming nowadays but was indeed a gift for those times.

It is kind of sad those websites will not be available to reach, well yea there is still archieve.org for that kind of nostalgia, but the fact that no more active websites sound a bit sad.

Who knows, may be Geocities could have been in a lot better situation if it did evolve in the right way, under good hands. Seems it will be remembered like an old film that we never get tired of mentioning.
